The research towards finding an ethanol fuel generator has reached a promising stage. The basis of this research is fuel cell technology. A fuel cell works just like a battery by electrochemically combining hydrogen and oxygen without combustion, to generate electricity. A battery cell requires charging or may drain off after prolonged use. But a fuel cell will continue producing electricity so long as the fuel is continued to be supplied.
The mechanics of a fuel cell include two electrodes sandwiched between an electrolyte. When oxygen is passed over one electrode and hydrogen is passed over the second, it generates heat, water and electricity. The process expels pure drinking water in the form of waste.
Ethanol is the main fuel source for the ethanol fuel cells generators. When fuel substance like ethanol is introduced, the system converts into a generator that provides the power to fuel the car or whatever device you want to run.
Fuel cell technology allows vehicles to run on alternative fuel. Alternative fuels are "green" fuels and they enable vehicles to run for a longer time and at economical rates apart from being environmentally friendly. Experts believe that ethanol will be the fuel for the future. If you add the light fuel cells to the car engine, your car can run just as efficiently as on gasoline. You will also get excellent performance from your vehicle, because Ethanol burns cleaner than petrol. You are also helping the environment as ethanol fuel cell generators give out little or no emissions.

Renewable energy is growing rapidly, creating thousands of jobs, reducing pollution, tapping American energy sources, and helping consumers and rural Americans. Renewable energy is cleaning up our air and water, improving our health, and protecting our climate for future generations. People do not seem to realise that renewable energy is very economical.

Accelerating the introduction of green, environmentally friendly, energy such as solar, wind and wave power is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity in the new millennium, the head of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) told a high-level meeting on renewable energy in Paris, this week.
A community might decide to pursue hydropower instead of wind power because it will produce more electricity than the community needs. This system provides complete protection from power surges and is a whole house backup system. Wind power could be an important part of meeting our commitments.

How Does Solar Water Heating Work?

Essentially, there are three different types of solar hot water heaters that can help you to heat your home using the sun: the flat panel collector; the evacuated tube collector and the concentrating collector.

The flat panel collector is the most common and is comprised of an insulated weather proof box that contains an absorbent material which attracts the sun's heat and energy. Flat panels are usually attached to your roof. Very simple flat panel solar collectors are often used to heat a pool that uses solar energy. However, flat panel collectors can also be used to heat your home or provide you with hot water for showers or cooking.

Evacuated tube collectors use parallel glass tubes with an inner and outer tube that absorbs solar energy. The advantage of evacuated tube collectors is due to the fact that the outer tube is evacuated, does not contain any air, there is a minimum amount of heat loss through radiation. Concentrating solar collectors use troughs that concentrate the sun's energy onto an absorber tube which will contain a heat transfer fluid.

Convenience is another factor to consider when looking at solar power versus generator power. Solar power is much more convenient than generator power.
Solar power may be less convenient to purchase and install, since it is not as widely available as generators. This is due to the currently small market for solar power. As the market increases, however, this will be less of a problem. Solar power systems have no moving parts to wear out or need lubrication. Once installed, solar power requires little attention. The user can almost forget it.
Generators are widely available, so convenient to purchase and install. Convenience decreases after installation, though. A generator must be monitored frequently to be sure sufficient fuel is available. It must be refilled often when used as a regular source of power. Fuel must be ordered and delivery taken - or fuel must be hauled by the owner. The system must be serviced twice a year. This servicing will include filter changes, an oil change, a tune up, and complete inspection of the entire unit. Worn parts must be replaced.

Tidle power

New renewable energy sources are popping up all the time and are coming more and more into our consciousness as well as being firmly set as something to address on the new Government's agenda. There are many forms of large scale renewable energy that countries around the world are looking into but here's a look at tidal energy and how it's progressing.
Tides are the rising and falling of the ocean's water level and are the result of the gravitational pull on the Earth as it rotates created by the sun and moon. The main reason that tidal energy is something being considered by Government's worldwide is that the tides never stop. Harnessing their energy would mean a constant and predictable source but at the moment there are very few places in the world that do.
The world's first tidal power station, Rance Tidal Power Plant, opened in France in 1966 and after over 50 years it is still the world's largest. The Annapolis Tidal Generating System run by Novia Scotia Power is the only tidal power station in the USA and is situated on the Annapolis River. Here the plant takes advantage of the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy to generate power. The world's third largest plant is the Jiangxia Tidal Power Station however, South Korea are currently in the process of constructing numerous tidal plants that will each generate double the amount of energy than any current tidal power station!
There are other forms of technology that can harness energy from the tides other than the more traditional techniques. A relatively new technology uses open-centre turbines that are placed on the sea floor, this recent invention is the first turbine that will actually sit below the ocean's surface and unlike previous technologies don't require a dam to be built. Their design minimizes impact on the environment and they were first deployed in the Bay of Fundy to mixed success and will be tested further next year.
